Linking Learning to Life
Description: Linking Learning to Life (LLL) helps to prepare youth to succeed in life after high school with a focus on career, college and community. This non-profit organization creates partnerships with schools, businesses and other community organizations to provide K-12 students with hands-on, real-life, learning opportunities. Students participate in activities such as: job shadowing, internships, and paid employment; mentoring; service learning and other community-based projects; and can take college courses while still in high school (earning both high school and college credit).

Some programs are geared for a broad spectrum of students and others focus on more intensive work with at-risk youth. Much of LLL’s work is in Burlington, where it began 10 years ago. Several programs have branched out to other Chittenden County schools, and LLL is now expanding and replicating some programs to other parts of the state. LLL serves 5,000 to 6,000 students per year.

Communities, businesses, and the Vermont economy stand to gain when youth are given opportunities to connect learning to life outside of school, to explore careers, to develop employment skills and experience, and to pursue post-secondary education. Please contact LLL if you would like to host students, be a mentor, make classroom presentations about your career field, or learn more about this important work.
