Vermont State Employees’ Association (VSEA)
Description: VSEA is a member-run labor organization representing State government workers who provide quality public services. VSEA collectively bargains contracts and promotes issues that improve the lives of all Vermont workers.

Description: UE represents a number of groups of workers in Chittenden County, including technical and service staff of the University of Vermont, employees of City Market, and workers in a number of non-profit organizations.

United Employees of the University of Vermont, UE Local 267
UE Local 267 represents the 350 service and maintenance workers at the University of Vermont (UVM). UE Local 267 was chartered in December of 1997. UE Local 267 has negotiated two contracts which brought significant increases in pay, a grievance procedure, and a voice at work to UVM service and maintenance employees. The local has also fought dozens of grievances, defeated a management proposal to contract out the university shuttle services to a private company, fought for workers at the state legislature in Montpelier, and many other accomplishments.

Vermont Non-Profit Workers Union, UE Local 221

UE Local 221, the Vermont Non-Profit Workers Union, is an amalgamated local union representing over 150 workers at four non-profit organizations around Vermont. Description: The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) has played a vital role in building America. Description: The New England Regional Council of Carpenters represents 27,000 carpenters, pile drivers, millwrights, shop, millmen, and floorcoverers working in the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Those with little or no carpentry experience can join the union by becoming an apprentice. Carpenters working in the industry can come into the union in a couple of different ways: they can work with their crew to organize their employer; they can become a union member when their employer signs a union agreement; or the union can take them in when there is work available.

Vermont PsychAlliance
The PsychAlliance of Vermont, an interdisciplinary group of some 100 psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers, started meeting because of the impact of managed care on Vermont health practitioners. The informal meetings led to a more formal organization, which, in turn, led to affiliation with UPV/AFT, AFL-CIO.

While Federal regulation prohibits union membership for mental health practitioners, the affiliation allows the members of both organizations to benefit in a variety of ways from each other’s expertise. The alliance offers its expertise on mental health care, with information on various treatment programs and consultation on contract negotiations. The union offers a number of benefits relating to insurance rates, loans, legal services, and travel, prescription drug and dental programs.

Description: The Vermont Workers’ Center is a member-run organization for workers’ rights and living wages for all Vermonters.
