“The Retail Experience:” THE PARTY CHECKLIST

The Entrance

  • Sidewalk clean? Shop entrance clean? What does your customer see when they come up to the door?
  • Signage- Does your sign need updating? Is there peeling paint? Or there lights out? Missing letters or words?
  • Windows- Are they clean? Are there posters or flyers that are outdated?
  • Are there display windows? How often are they changed?, cleaned? Are all of the lights in the windows working?

The Retail Space

  • Is the entrance cluttered? Does any fixturing or merchandise block any part of the customers’ path?
  • How does your store flow? Does it flow?
  • What is the story that you are trying to convey to your customers?
  • Is your cash wrap(counter) clean? Neat? Tidy? Is there work in progress always going on in the space?
  • Does the back room ever move into the selling space?

The Customer

  • When is the customer greeted by you or staff?
  • Have all of your sales staff been trained to do a similar approach? Trained in what not to say? Reading the response from a customer?
  • What is your philosophy on ‘The Selling Approach’?
  • How do you retain customers, creating repeat sales? What is the value your business offers over your competition?
  • Is there theater in your business? Does your customer have fun? Do you laugh with your customers?

Parking downtown Burlington during the holidays just got a lot easier on weeknights and weekends during the holidays. 1200 additional free parking spaces are available to downtown holiday shoppers through January 8, 2005. There are more than 300 retailers located in the downtown area.

Total added Sales Potential for 1,275 parking spaces for 42 days equals $56,486,750. The value of a single parking space in the downtown area during the holiday season is an added $70.60 per square foot of retail space. That is $44,300 for each space that an employee frees up by taking the bus, car-pooling, or walking to work. The 12-month Retail Sales Expenditure Potential for all retail downtown is $3,558,162,000.
