Champlain Housing Trust (CHT)

Description: Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization founded in 1984 to provide access to land and affordable housing for low and moderate income households, to promote neighborhood preservation and to develop an economic base in and for the community.  CHT creates and maintains affordable housing using a community land trust model.  CHT's many programs include: converting multi-family buildings to cooperatives; helping people buy homes; maintaining an emergency family shelter, a home for women who have been homeless, housing for people with special needs, and a transitional housing project for single parents.

Burlington Housing Authority (BHA)

Description: The Burlington Housing Authority is a nonprofit, tax-exempt municipal corporation founded in 1962 with the dual purpose of slum clearance and providing safe, decent, sanitary housing.  BHA has developed and manages hundreds of conventional low-income public housing units, manages over eighty Section 8 Substantial Rehabilitation units, and subsidizes hundreds of rental units through the Section 8 Existing Certificate and Voucher Programs.  BHA offers the following assisted housing programs:
  • Housing for Families
  • Housing for Elderly or Disabled Individuals or Couples ²
  • Single Room Occupancy Housing

Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS)

Description: The Committee on Temporary Shelter is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of those who find themselves in need of housing. It operates two emergency shelters and offers a variety of integrated services to individuals and families without shelter.

Description: The Lake Champlain Housing Development Corp. LCHDC is a nonprofit corporation offering a full range of housing services. It serves low and moderate income families and individuals in Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties. LCHDC supports its mission in several ways:
  • Provides affordable housing to eligible clients.
  • Coordinates social and other support services for special needs tenants.
  • Provides financially responsible property management and maintenance services.
