Goal: The waterfront is a vital, year-round part of the
community, providing safe and environmentally sustainable cultural,
recreational, social, and economic opportunities that are accessible to all
regardless of income, ability or lifestyle.
Five-Year Focus: Support the Waterfront Revitalization Plan (as
revised and approved in 1998), including:
- Support dense urban mixed-use development.
- Rebuild the breakwater and repair the bulkhead.
- Complete the interim and future adaptive reuse of the Moran Plant.
- Complete the development of the Lake Champlain Basin Science Center and
support its programming.
- Relocate Vermont Railway.
- Develop the Multi-Modal Center.
- Expand passenger and commuter rail.
- Implement the Interim Use and Stewardship Plan for the Urban
Reserve.
- Continue cleanup
- Improve pedestrian connections
- Begin planning for future uses
- Redevelop the Astroline site.
- Complete the Interim Development Area infrastructure study and develop an
Infrastructure Plan for Interim Development Area
- Underground the overhead utility lines.
- Build Depot Street Housing.
