Social Service Goals, Strategies and Funded Activities

Priority 3: Seniors and People with Disabilities

Goal: Older adults and people with disabilities have the necessary community supports to live independently - with advocacy, recreation and social services appropriately available.

Five-Year Focus:

  • Maintain existing senior centers and programming in senior centers and other community centers throughout the City. 
  • Participate in the Long-Term Care Coalition planning effort. 
  • Maintain home-based and center-based services to senior citizens and people with disabilities, particularly those most vulnerable due to poverty, illness and social isolation. 
  • Advocate for an exploration of state support for senior centers. 
  • Expand attendant care and respite options for persons with disabilities and elderly residents.

Annual Action Plan – Program Year 2007

The City will fund the following projects and programs with CDBG funds in program year 2007 to further the priority of seniors and people with disabilities:
