Appendix A:  Sources and Additional Resources

City Plans

The 2006 Municipal Development Plan is the city’s land use planning document, revised every five years. It is prepared by the Department of Planning & Zoning and is the city’s principal guide directing land use policy and decision-making.

Moving Towards Home: Strategies for Ending Homelessness in Ten Years, is the city’s 10-year plan for ending homelessness. It was prepared by the Community & Economic Development Office in February 2004.

The Urban Forestry Master Plan includes a Master Plan and a Street Tree Planting Plan. It was prepared by the Department of Parks & Recreation.

The Waterfront Revitalization Plan was approved by the voters in 1990 and revised by the City Council in December 1998. It provides a guiding vision and unifying force for development of the waterfront district.

The Open Space Protection Plan was adopted by City Council in October 2000. It prioritizes lands that are most important and suitable for long-term protection and creates a land conservation fund, sustained in part with dedicated city funding.

The Climate Action Plan sets goals and outlines strategies to achieve target CO2 emissions reductions for the city.

The 2000 Legacy Action Plan laid out a thirty-year vision for the city together with priority actions.

Moving Forward Together: Transportation Plan for the City of Burlington (August 2007 draft) describes Burlington’s long-term transportation vision as well as intermediate-term strategies for moving toward the vision and specifies an initial Five Year Plan that will be updated annually.

The city’s Community Safety Task Force Public Education and Community Safety Plan, endorsed by City Council in October 2005, sets out recommendations for responding to crime, educating citizens and promoting safety.
