Beginning with the 2001 program year, the City now sets aside 5% of its CDBG allocation to fund a
Neighborhood Development Grants program. The program funds CDBG-eligible
physical development projects in Burlington. Project proposals must be
submitted through one of the city's seven Neighborhood
Planning Assemblies. A Neighborhood Grants
Board, made up of one
Steering Committee representative from each of the neighborhood Planning
assemblies and two mayoral appointees, reviews applications and makes
recommendations to the Mayor.
Applications for neighborhood projects are reviewed for eligibility by the Community &
Economic Development Office. Any city departments which will be involved in
the project (i.e., Parks & Recreation, Public Works, School District) must
sign off on the application.
Applications are then be voted on at the March
Neighborhood Planning Assembly meetings. The Neighborhood Grants Board
reviews the applications in April. You can view a list of the 2008 grant applications and the Board's recommendations
here.
The funding range for projects is $800 to $10,000 per project, with a
maximum amount available per ward based on the number of low/moderate income
residents in that ward.
There are also grants available through the
Burlington Neighborhood Project.
