Trends 1960 - 2000:  Number of Children

Substantial decreases since 1960 in the proportion of children under 18 are the norm for Chittenden County towns. Most communities - including Burlington - have stabilized that trend over the last decade. Again - as the charts on the following page show - the high proportion of college students in Burlington tends to skew comparisons. When college students are subtracted from the total population, Burlington still has proportionally fewer children - but begins to look more like other communities.
