With so many exciting neighborhood activities happening this
summer, it was an especially difficult task matching the amount
allocated to applicants with the amount available. This year,
$10,025.00 was allocated citywide to groups to support a wide range
of activities, from “Dumpster Dives” to “Street Festivals.”
The intent of the Burlington Neighborhood Project (BNP) grants is
to support a system that promotes conversation, organizing and
safety within the Neighborhoods. To qualify for the grants,
applicants needed to prove that their projects were able to meet
these six tenets determined by the BNP Steering Committee:
1. Promote safer, more livable neighborhoods;
2. Foster positive neighborhood relationships;
3. Build a better sense of community and neighborhood pride;
4. Inform households within the neighborhood of the possible grant
submission;
5. Be self-sustaining or leave a lasting legacy of public safety
improvements; and
6. Focus on improving the quality of life for residents in one of
Burlington’s low-income neighborhoods.
