The Community Support Program offers conflict resolution services
to the residents of Burlington for neighborhood or neighbor
disputes. Using conciliation, mediation, or other conflict
resolution strategies, the program seeks to assist people in
creating the solutions that work for everyone involved.
In the past year, the Community Support Program responded to over
150 disputes. Cases are referred from a variety of sources,
including the Burlington Police Department, Burlington Neighborhood
Project, Burlington Community Land Trust, the University of Vermont,
Burlington Housing Authority, the Mayors Office, Community Action,
the Department of Corrections, and directly from community members.
The issues addressed mostly deal with noise, trash and disorder,
parking, landlord/tenant or roommate disputes, and animal or
children’s behavior.
