Community Action Priorities for Businesses
Burlington Racism Study Circle Program

May 2003


A.  The Chamber of Commerce take a lead on a program to encourage and assist local businesses and institutions improve their services to diverse customers. Businesses should take a look at their current practices, the demography of their clients and employees and the barriers to good service to persons with diverse backgrounds. H.O. Wheeler Monday 5:30 - 7:30 PM

B.  Aggressively encourage or even mandate private businesses to conduct trainings focusing on diversity or cultural sensitivity. Fletcher Free Library Sundays 12 - 2PM

C.  Expand on the Retail Racial Profiling training work being done by BARC, Church Street Marketplace to all retailers in the area. Community Justice Center Tuesdays 9-11

D.  Remove economic barriers to all jobs at all levels to attract, recruit and retain people
of color into jobs and leadership positions in our community.
