Take a Stand - Make a Difference

You can help affect change locally. CEDO AmeriCorps*VISTA is your chance to put your ideas into action while learning new skills and making new connections. Plus, you can earn money to pay for college or get a cash stipend at the end of your service. The CEDO AmeriCorps*VISTA program, run through the Center for Community and Neighborhoods, has existed in Burlington since 1993. The goal of the VISTA program is to develop sustainable initiatives that improve the lives of low income Vermonters. A*VISTAs provide crucial support to the community and to community organizations. They help to develop and establish new programs, raise funds, and create change. You can learn more about A*VISTA here.

AmeriCorps*VISTA is funded by the Corporation for National & Community Service. A*VISTA members serve as “capacity builders” in non-profit agencies and as grassroots organizers in the community. The AmeriCorps*VISTA Program in Burlington was one of the first of its kind in Vermont and has served as a national model to other A*VISTA programs. Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Take a look at the A*VISTA positions for 2008-2009.

AmeriCorps*VISTA is part of a network of national service programs that engage Americans each year in service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health and the environment. VISTAs commit to one year of service working to fight poverty, illiteracy, and create sustainable change. This year, 40 VISTAs are working in a variety of non-profit agencies, schools, libraries, and city departments to expand opportunities for youth, create programming and educational opportunities for refugee populations, develop job and skills-trainings, and provide local food to schools and low-income individuals. More than 200 VISTAs have given Vermont at least one year of service over the last four years. Members raised over $200,000 towards community initiatives and recruited over 1,500 local volunteers who, in turn, completed over 15,000 hours of service. Our members receive a stipend of about $909 a month, health benefits, and either a $4,725 Education Award or a cash stipend of $1,200 at completion of service.   AmeriCorps*VISTA Members
