Burlington Welcome Baby

  Welcome Baby
The Community and Economic Development Office (CEDO), in partnership with Building Bright Futures of Chittenden County, welcome’s Burlington’s newest residents into the community. Through this program, every family with a newborn baby in Burlington is offered a visit and a gift and resource bag to celebrate the arrival of their child and help families feel better connected to the support systems they may want or need.

Kid's Activities at the Library
There's always something going on at the Fletcher Free Library!  Take a look at the various activities for children.

Chittenden County was recognized in June 2004 as a Community of Excellence for its work supporting all families with young children with quality coordinated programs, by the Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development.

For more information, contact Ann Dillenbeck at Building Bright Futures of Chittenden County.  802·652·5138 or ecc@sover.net.

On average, there is a birth every day to a Burlington resident, or close to 400 births a year. Every family with a newborn is contacted by a letter when the infant is about three months old. Families who choose to receive a welcome bag can either have it delivered by a volunteer to their home or pick up the bag at a community location. The bag includes information on parenting, child development and health resources, as well as gifts and coupons for the baby and family.

This statewide program, which is unique to Vermont, is part of the “Success by Six” initiative. It relies on community involvement and is tailored to help meet the individualized needs of parents by connecting them to services that support families raising young children.

Volunteers who would like to deliver Welcome Baby bags and visit with parents are encouraged to contact the Burlington Welcome Baby Program. Visitors receive training and support. Businesses are encouraged to call if they would like to donate goods or services for the welcome baby bags.
